I recently heard John Burke talk about how the “world is coming to Austin.” It’s so true. Austin is one of those unique cities that combines a great educational system, tech culture (start-ups) & art industry (music, film, etc). On our block alone we have Brazilians, Indians and folks from some part of the Middle-East.

Tonight I went to my neighbors house. They moved from Rio De Janeiro. I was also able to meet a dude from S. Africa, he grew up there. His family is traditional Afrikaans. Man the stories he was telling me-thank God for Nelson Mandela.

Church leaders in Austin and cities like Austin have a huge challenge. We literally have to think like a missionary if we are going to reach those who live close to us. Yesterday’s “outreach” is no longer valid today. We must learn new ways to love those who have a different mind-set but they still need to experience the grace of Jesus.

I get pumped when I can go next door and spend the evening learning about a country and culture that is across the ocean. You gotta love that.
