Very Nice…But a bit pricey!

I was thinking about Apple and how crazy the lines were last night. There is just so much to learn from a company like Apple. You can apply some key principles to your business, church and ever your personal life.

1. They constantly innovate: It’s a never ending stream of new gadgets. It seems like they push the envelope every time. How does a computer company capture the music industry? How does a computer company create an amazing cell phone? It’s amazing. Who would have thought the nano would eventually have video?

2. Simplicity: I love how they make complicated technology simple. They create products for us normal tech consumers. Apple makes me feel better, more savvy. I don’t have time or energy to learn complicated technology.

3. Price: I know some say Apple is expensive. I just don’t think so. The iPhone was $600 when it came out. My Treo 650 was $650. Maybe they are a bit more expensive, but not to the point where it’s considered extreme. My 4-5 year old iBook is still running great. It cost me $1100. The battery life sucks and I had to replace the hard-drive once. Other then that it still works great.

4. Customer Service: There is no doubt Apple is going to struggle in this area. When companies grow so quickly it’s bound to happen. My one main issue with my Apple products has been the battery life. I’ve owned Apple products for 5 years and I’ve never called customer service. But I do know plenty of people who had some lame issues. But every time these people seem very happy with Apple’s customer service. Not that it’s perfect… I think this may be Apple’s biggest issue as they continue to grow. How can they keep their loyal fan base and still expand as a company. The haters will be there for sure.

5. Risk: These cats are brave…They just don’t rest on their laurels. They seem to constantly be taking risk (iPhone & iPod). Just because something is working does not mean they won’t change and improve on that product. (think iPod mini or whatever it was called) They have no problem shelving a product and making it better.

6. Buzz: I think this is what separates Apple from it’s competitors. Everything they do is talked about. Expectations are so high and the buzz is so strong. What other company can say that? Even Apple haters would have to admit that. They create so much momentum. I think Apple does a great job of creating a shared experience. I follow blogs, live webcast and multiple websites in hopes of the next best thing. Last night I spoke to several people about Leopard. We were all excited and asking questions. I know Apple is not perfect…I know Apple haters will do their best to try and combat these points. But the reality is somewhat in the facts. We all have a lot to learn from this great company.

Now I will give props to Nussbaum and Ashdown for convincing me to switch…Good friends for sure.

I installed Leopard tonight. So far so good. I did not do a “clean install” since my tech skills can be lacking in that area.

The line was freaking crazy at the store. HUGE!

I’ll try and post an update tomorrow. But at first glance Leopard looks great and seems quick.

Al Gore has won the Nobel Peace Prize and I guess Apple wants us all to know. Seems a bit strange to me.

Seems like the weekends go a bit too quickly. I watched a ton of football, went to church, played with my iPhone and hung out w/ some Vista peeps.

  • Texas was making me a bit nervous. But they played well in the end.
  • Notre Dame is just bad. It’s going to be a long season. But I think they will get better.
  • Michigan is just horrendous. Speechless.
  •  Oklahoma looks VERY good. Lame.
  • Texas AM/Fresno St game was rad.

  • My Raiders are just frustrating. Horrible organization.
  • Cowboys looked good. But the Giants were banged up.
  • Either Colts or Patriots are going to win the SB. Maybe SD. NFC has no chance IMHO.

We also had a great day at church. Jeff and Justin Cofield Band rocked the house. Attendance was awesome and we had a TON of folks who were missing. This fall will be a huge season of growth for our church. Get ready Vista.

Tomorrow marks the first day the entire staff is together. Should be fun.

Can’t wait to get in the office this week. So much to do. Can’t wait.

The iPhone is amazing. Man I love it and so does Necole. Not sure why this device got all the criticisms. It’s not perfect, but from a technology point of view-it’s epic.

Time for bed. Shalom

The past few months have seemed like one big blur. It’s Friday night and it seems hard to imagine the week is gone.

Some thoughts:

  • Necole and I both picked up iPhone’s. Basically we pretty much got them for free. I sold my Blackberry tonight. Craigslist rocks.
  • We had a great time with Steven and Amy. Can’t wait to see them in Cape Town in November.
  • Necole heads off to Dallas tomorrow night.
  • Belle is getting huge. I love that pup.
  • I went to a “teddy bear parade” today for Kenzie.
  • ACL is one week from today.
  • I really need a productive week next week.
  • I love the folks at Vista. Such a great community.
  • We had a blast at “Stories From Africa” last night.

Now it’s time to chill out. Girls are in bed, Necole is with friends and I have HD TV. Woo Hoo!

apple_iphone_1.jpgLast night a group of us gathered to celebrate Kenzie birthday and folks wanted to see the pup. However, Wade spiced up the night when be brought his new iPhone.

Not sure how or why so many folks are being so negative…Have you held one or used one? If not please don’t judge this device. Because it’s truly amazing. Definitely innovative. I was surfing the net on the “edge” network. And it was fast. ESPN loaded in like 20 seconds, as opposed too 2-3 minutes on my Treo.

Sure it may have some weaknesses, and it’s hard to live up to all the hype, but at the end of the day…It’s a sweet phone. The funny thing is this-it’s cheaper then the Treo when the Treo first launched. 🙂

Just when I was getting over the iPhone…Then I saw this.

If it’s true I gurantee you I will have an iPhone by C-Mas. I mean, how could you not want one?

Everyone Who’s Disappointed, I Have Good News!

I met with my buddy from Apple for Coffee today, I told him I loved the interface, and all the great subtle little features it has that makes it so easy to use. I then told him I really, wanted a File System Access so I could store files, download images from the web, and generally carry around data, not just load it up from iTunes..

He said Apple IS absolutely BUILDING this, and it will come in a software update no later than when Leopard ships in two months (there will be updates before this)

Here is what he said:

* There will be a build in file browser like the new finder in leopard for sorting through files

* There will be a disk mode

* The reason that there currently isn’t a file browser + way to save files from web is because there isn’t a file browser on the phone, and they wanted to release the same one that’s gonna be in the upcoming leopard OS, complete with coverflow.

* There will even be a special version of “iWork” so you can show your keynote presentations

* So anyway a FULL file browser is coming so you can browse just like windows mobile explorer only in the cool way leopard’s file browser is

* Full spotlight like search is coming too

* Widescreen keyboard support will be coming in every app, not just safari

* Copy & Paste, Select Text is coming too (clipboard)

* Also mail will see an upgrade so you can add accounts without doing so through itunes.

* Most of the delays in this is because iTunes is the App Windows & Mac users are familar with for iTunes, so Apple didn’t want to do a bad interface that had a file browser hacked into iTunes.

* When Leopard FINAL release comes out, plugging in the iPhone will pop open a special window in the finder that has areas for dragging all your files like a file explorer only more advanced and designed specifically for the iPhone, it will make sure that it works so iTunes knows how much space is for data, and how much is for “iTunes” stuff.

* Apple will be putting iChat on the phone, very, very soon, before Leopard.

According to this article, we shall see some new iPhones and iPod’s in the near future.

Apple plans cheaper, Nano-based phone.

I just got my hands on the new iPhone.

I’m currently looking around my house thinking of what I can sell. I have an old iPod…Xbox 360…two daughters…my wife’s laptop, a mini-van with 170,000 miles…I would trade Kobe for an iPhone, I will work on the weekends for an iPhone, I will speak at your church for an iphone…

Oh wait….I have a contract with Sprint that last another 8 months-CRAP!

Why Apple Why????????????????????????
